Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy stated that former prime minister late Rajiv Gandhi’s introduction of computer technology laid the foundation for India's technological revolution, which in turn enabled leaders like BRS working president KT Rama Rao to rise in the modern era.

He criticised KTR’s political journey, claiming that without Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions, leaders like KTR might not have had the same opportunities.

Speaking at a programme after unveiling the statue of Rajiv Gandhi in front of the Telangana Secretariat here on Monday, the Chief Minister praised former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s decisions, including the lower of voting age to 18, allowing India's youth to actively shape the nation’s future and introduction of reforms that decentralised governance by providing funds directly to village panchayats, thus empowering local bodies.

"Rajiv Gandhi also championed women's rights by implementing reservations for women in local governance, marking a pivotal moment for female representation in politics," Revanth Reddy pointed out.

The Chief Minister argued that despite losing power, certain political leaders remained arrogant and disrespectful of the Congress party's legacy.

Revanth Reddy condemned the previous BRS regime for indulging in corruption and criticised the lavish construction of farmhouses by certain politicians while ignoring Telangana's history and culture.

Expressing disappointment that it took 10 years for the BRS government to think of erecting a statue of Telangana’s Thalli, the Chief Minister assured the people that by December 9, a statue of Telangana's Thalli would be installed in the Secretariat, symbolising the heart of Telangana’s governance.

Revanth Reddy also cautioned the people of Telangana to remain vigilant against corrupt political forces that were once again trying to destabilise the State.
