The South-Central Railway (SCR) is set to operate 400 special trains during the Sankranti festival in 2025 to meet the surge in passenger demand. Sankranti is one of the most important festivals in the southern states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, leading to a significant increase in travel as families reunite to celebrate. The announcement comes in response to the heavy bookings that are expected during the festive period, typically observed in mid-January.

These trains are expected to run on popular routes to ease congestion and provide additional seating capacity. For specific dates, routes, and booking information, passengers are encouraged to check the official SCR portal.

SCR runs special trains to Visakhapatnam, Machilipatnam, Nellore, Kakinada, Narasapur, Bhimavaram, Eluru, Ongole, Vizianagaram and Tirupati during the festive season of Sankranti every year. Trains like Garib Rath, Falaknuma, Konark, LTT, Godavari, and Vishaka towards Visakhapatnam are already showing regret status to the passengers flocking in for tickets on the official IRCTC portal. Goutami Express, Cocanada Express and LTT Cocanada trains towards Kakinada are also in the same category, disappointing scores of passengers.
