Before that, she held the position of criminal justice director at the American Civil Liberties Union of the Nation's Capital (ACLU-NCA). Additionally, Sadanandan spent two years working as an organizer for an agricultural workers labor union called Jagrutha Mahila Sanghatane in Karnataka, India.

Sadanandan pursued her law degree at American University in Washington DC and studied sociology at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
