TS govt honoured for street vendors’ scheme

Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Thursday was felicitated by Hardeep S Puri, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, during the event, “Three years of PM SVANidhi – Empowering Nano Entrepreneurs,” in New Delhi.

The Telangana government was recognised as one of the top performers among other large States for its commitment and dedication towards the successful execution of Pattana Pragathi – Street Vendors (SVs) Development - PM SVANidhi scheme.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in a meeting held on February 16, 2020 announced the launch of Pattana Pragathi from February 24, 2020 and directed to take up the Street Vendors development as one of the Pattana Pragathi activities. The Telangana Minister for MA&UD, K T Rama Rao during the Pattana Pragathi programme held in Mahabubnagar Municipality on February 24, 2020 directed to issue working capital loans to all street vendors and develop vending zones in ULBs.

The State government said, under Pattana Pragathi programme and PM SVANidhi, working capital loans are yet being disbursed to street vendors. Government of Telangana under Pattana Pragathi has also issued Indicative guiding parameters for improvement of infrastructure and providing basic amenities in vending zones of street vendors to all ULBs and till date, out of a total 2,676 street vending sheds, 1,294 sheds are constructed and 1,382 sheds are under construction.

“In the first tranche of loans 3,58,776 SVs loans have been sanctioned and Rs 353.17 crore has been disbursed to 3,56,678 SVs as against the original target of 3.40 lakh later enhanced to 4 lakh in September 2022. Telangana was the first State in the country to achieve 100 per cent disbursement in the first tranche,” the State government said.

In the second tranche, 1,53,306 SVs loans were sanctioned and Rs 292.60 crore disbursed to 1,46,692 SVs as against the target of 1,45,100 SVs. Further, in third tranche, 10,661 SVs loans sanctioned and Rs 49.64 crore disbursed to 10,058 SVs as against the target of 3,870 SVs, it added. Till now total of Rs 695.42 crore is disbursed to SVs of Telangana State under the three tranches.

The government further said that the Street Vendors (SVs) of Telangana have also received interest subsidy of Rs 1070.00 lakh for regular repayment of loans. Moreover, 3,24,089 SVs are being digitally onboarded by providing QR Codes and are also provided with training on digital transactions. SVs of Telangana have availed Rs 659 lakh, the second highest cash incentive in the country for conducting digital transactions, after UP with Rs 667 lakh.
