Uttam Promises to Complete all Pending Irrigation Projects in Palamuru

Hyderabad: Minister for Irrigation Uttam Kumar Reddy has pledged to complete all pending irrigation projects in the combined Palamuru district within this legislative term, ensuring irrigation for 12 lakh acres of land.

The Minister said the district, known for its backwardness and high migration rates, will benefit immensely in the days to come once the projects are completed.

Uttam Kumar Reddy along with Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao and senior officials from the finance and irrigation departments on Wednesday undertook a comprehensive review of the irrigation projects in the district. As part of the review, they inspected the Uddandapur Reservoir in Jadcherla constituency, which falls under the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme.

Addressing a meeting after inspecting the progress of the Uddandapur Reservoir, Uttam Kumar Reddy reiterated that accelerating all irrigation projects in the district is the government's top priority and Rs45 crore was released for the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) efforts associated with the Uddandapur project.

He assured that the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, along with other major projects such as Kalwakurthy, Bhima, Nettempadu and Koilsagar, would be completed 100 percent.

On the occasion, Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao criticised the previous BRS government for spending Rs27,500 crore on the Palamuru-Rangareddy project without providing water to even a single acre. Moreover, they highlighted that the previous administration failed to secure a rightful water share for Palamuru-Rangareddy.

The completion of the Palamuru-Rangareddy project will provide irrigation for 12 lakh acres. The government is committed to accomplishing this within the current legislative term. Similarly, the State government is pledged to complete the Kalwakurthy, Nettempadu and Bhima lift irrigation schemes, setting clear deadlines for their completion, Jupally Krishna Rao said.

The Ministers also emphasised their commitment to ensuring legal rehabilitation for those affected by submergence due to reservoirs like Uddandapur.

During the visit, the Ministers also laid the foundation stone for a 4.2-kilometer road project at the Uddandapur R&R center, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs.12.97 crore.
