Hyderabad: The newly appointed engineers should take India's pioneering civil engineer Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya as an ideal and build their careers with dedication, said Minister for Roads and Buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.

Speaking as the chief guest at the 5-day orientation programme for 156 engineers selected through TSPSC (Telangana State Public Service Commission) for the Roads and Buildings (R&B) department, the Minister guided the new engineers at the National Academy of Construction (NAC), HITEX in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Expressing concern over the situation, he stated that both the State and the R&B department faced difficulties over the past decade due to a lack of appointments and engineers and the absence of engineers had left the department unable to oversee critical projects, leading to delays.

He mentioned the grim scenario where one engineer had to serve ten mandals. To address this, the orientation programme was arranged for the 156 Assistant Executive Engineers (AEE) allocated to the R&B department, out of 1,540 newly appointed AEEs by TSPSC, to prepare them for fieldwork, Komatireddy disclosed.

In the reconstruction of Telangana, which has suffered over the past decade, the role of engineers is pivotal, the Minister emphasised.

He pointed out that a few selfish leaders and engineers had tarnished the image of the engineering community.

However, he encouraged the new recruits to take inspiration from great engineers like Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya and Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung Bahadur, rather than those associated with projects like Kaleshwaram. Komatireddy Venkat Reddy urged the engineers to perform their duties with the utmost dedication and commitment, following in the footsteps of Visvesvaraya.

The Minister assured the engineers that the Congress government has high hopes for them. If they perform their duties with dedication, the State will progress and the people will benefit from improved infrastructure, he said.

The Minister highlighted the ongoing key projects under the R&B department such as the Super Game Changer RRR project, TIMS hospital buildings and administrative building constructions in various districts.

He also assured the engineers of his support, promising to be available 24/7 to address any issues they might face. "We are all like a family, and together we will lead the State towards development. We are committed to rebuilding Telangana, which has been in disrepair for the past decade," he stated.
