Indian men’s team are the defending champions of the Thomas Cup

The Indian men’s badminton team have been drawn alongside Indonesia for the upcoming Thomas Cup, while the women’s badminton team have been drawn with China and Singapore for the Uber Cup.

The Thomas and Uber Cup, one of badminton’s premier tournaments, will be played in Chengdu, China, from April 28 to May 5.

Indian team, the defending champions of the Thomas Cup, have been drawn in Group C alongside Indonesia, a team that has won the tournament 14 times. Notably, India beat Indonesia 3-0 to win the Thomas Cup in 2022. The Indian team has qualified for the 2024 edition of the Thomas Cup as they are the defending champions.

Thailand and England complete Group C with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. The first round will be a round robin round.

The Indian team had qualified for the 2024 Thomas Cup automatically by virtue of being the defending champions.

The Indian women’s badminton team is also placed in a tough group, alongside China in Group A for the Uber Cup. They will also run into Singapore and Canada in the round robin group stage before trying to make the knockouts.

Thomas Cup groupings:

Group A: China, Republic of Korea, Canada, Australia

Group B: China, Republic of Korea, Canada, Australia

Group C: Indonesia, India, Thailand, England

Group D: Denmark, Malaysia, Hong Kong China, Algeria

Uber Cup groupings:

Group A: China, India, Canada, Singapore

Group B: Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Australia

Group C: Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong China, Uganda

Group D: South Korea, Denmark, USA, Mexico
