Mpox Case Confirmed in Kerala: Health Authorities Respond

A 38-year-old man returning from Dubai has tested positive for Mpox in Kerala, as reported by Health Minister Veena George on Wednesday.

The individual, a resident of Edavanna in Malappuram district, presented to the outpatient department of the Government Medical College Hospital in Manjeri on 16 September, showing symptoms of fever and skin rashes.

Medical professionals identified the symptoms as potentially linked to the monkeypox virus (MPXV) and admitted him to the hospital's isolation ward while notifying health officials.

His fluid samples, analysed at the microbiology lab of Kozhikode Medical College, confirmed the positive result on Wednesday.

A district health official stated that the patient is currently stable and being closely monitored in isolation.

A preliminary list of his contacts has been compiled, and those individuals have been advised to self-isolate and monitor for any symptoms.
