TDP rubbish Jagan’s claim for LoP status

Vijayawada: TDP Ministers Nimmala Rama Naidu and G Sandha Rani on Wednesday slammed former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for staking claim to Leader of Opposition (LoP) status in the Assembly despite winning just 11 MLAs.

Rubbishing his claim that there is no rule to restrict the LoP status to an opposition party, if it fails to win 10 per cent of total seats of the Assembly, they quoted the Pulivendula’s MLA’s assertion on the floor of the House after becoming the Chief Minister in 2019 that if he could engineer defection of five MLAs from TDP, N Chandrababu Naidu, who was granted the Leader of Opposition status then with 23 MLAs, would have lost it.

The Ministers said in many States as well as Lok Sabha, LoP status is not being given to any party if it fails to win 10 per cent of total strength of the legislature.
