On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologised for the collapse of a 35-foot statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg.

Modi expressed his regret, acknowledging the statue’s significance to both the Maratha king’s followers and himself.

The statue, which Modi unveiled last year on Indian Navy Day, fell on August 26.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde mentioned that it was designed and built by the Indian Navy, which is now investigating the incident.

The Maharashtra Public Works Department had earlier raised concerns about rust and recommended fixes just days before the collapse.

Additionally, structural consultant Chetan Patil, linked to the incident, has been arrested in Kolhapur and is under further investigation by the Sindhudurg police.
