Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Executive Chairperson of Biocon and Biocon Biologics, announced on August 30 that the company aims to achieve gender parity by 2030.

Speaking at Storyboard18’s Share The Spotlight event in Bengaluru, Shaw explained that gender parity involves not just increasing the number of women in the workforce, but also ensuring fairness in pay, promotions, and leadership roles.

Shaw stressed that having more women in the workplace enhances organisational effectiveness.

At the event, she recognised three key women from her company: Biocon Biologics COO Rhonda Duffy, Global Communications Head Seema Ahuja, and her personal assistant Lata Sharma.

Shaw noted that while the overall percentage of women at Biocon is just over 30%, some departments, like research, have achieved 50% gender parity.

Recent changes in regulations, such as the amendment to the Factories Act of 1948 allowing women to work night shifts, have supported these efforts.

Reflecting on her career, Shaw recalled the challenges she faced as a pioneering woman entrepreneur and expressed pride in the increasing number of women in leadership roles within her organisation.
