BJP Calls for 12-Hour Bandh in Bengal, Demands Resignation of Mamata

Police stopped protestors from reaching the secretariat by resorting to lathi charges, water cannons, and tear gas.

The opposition party BJP in Wet Bengal has given a bandh call today, protesting against the police lathi charge on people who participated in the march.

The bandh will be implemented from 6 am to 6 pm in West Bengal.

The protesters were heading toward the secretariat demanding justice for the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata when police stopped them.

Police stopped protestors from reaching the secretariat by resorting to lathi charges, water cannons, and tear gas.

Protestors demanded the resignation of Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

According to the Leader of the Opposition West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari said that around 160 protestors, including women, have suffered injuries and demanded the Governor to implement the President's rule in the state.

Due to the bandh, only a few buses and private vehicles were seen plying on the roads.

Most of the schools and colleges also remain open on Wednesday. Several BJP leaders took to the streets requesting the public to remain indoors.
