Vijayawada: The cash-strapped Andhra Pradesh Government will spend an estimated Rs15 crore on removing the photos of former Chief Minister and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

After a high-level review meeting at Amaravati by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the government said, “The then government had spent a whopping Rs 650 crore to fulfill the wish of then Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy to carry his photo on all 77 lakh granite survey stones.”

According to Minister for Revenue Anagani Satya Prasad, though the Centre had never mentioned about the issue of laying stones for resurvey of lands, Jagan had prepared granite stones only for carving his pictures as he was mad after publicity at tax-payers’ money.

Meanwhile, in a press release, the CMO said there is an exercise by the new government on what to do with the 77 lakh granite stones carrying Jagan’s photos. The tentative estimates to delete these photos from the stones will cost another Rs15 crore, the release stated.

Public money amounting to Rs 700 crore is going waste due to Jagan’s thirst for his pictures, the government said. Chief Minister, Naidu’s direction to the officials was to study how to make use of these granite stones. The meeting decided to fulfil the promise made by the NDA coalition during the electioneering to issue pattadar passbooks with official seal.

“Officers have already submitted a copy of the passbook carrying the official seal. Arrangements have been made in such a way that if the QR Code is scanned all the details of the property, the address of the property and the maps clearly show the exact location of the property. The previous government had spent funds heavily for survey of agricultural lands in the name of resurvey,” the release stated.
