210 students complete MBBS degrees amidst Ukraine-Russia conflict

Hyderabad: In a remarkable testament to the resilience and international cooperation, 210 students, including 86 determined young women, have triumphed over adversity to complete their MBBS degrees despite the chaos of the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Facilitated by Neo Consultancy and supported by a consortium of government bodies and institutions, these students, initially enrolled at Zaporizhzhia State Medical University in Ukraine, faced uncertainty and peril when war erupted. However, through concerted efforts and collaboration, they found sanctuary and opportunity in Uzbekistan, enabling them to fulfil their academic ambitions.

The harrowing journey began when the conflict erupted, leaving the students stranded and fearful for their lives. Amidst the chaos, the foremost concern was their safety and future prospects. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Neo Institute of Medical Sciences, in coordination with the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, orchestrated a bold plan to relocate the students to Uzbekistan. This endeavour, endorsed by both Indian and Uzbekistani authorities, ensured the continuation of their medical education at Bukhara State Medical Institute.

Dr. Divya Raj Reddy, Managing Director of Neo Institute of Medical Sciences and Indian Representative of Uzbekistan Health Ministry, lauded the collaborative efforts that made this feat possible. She emphasized the crucial role played by governmental agencies and institutions in navigating the complex logistical and bureaucratic challenges posed by the conflict. Dr Reddy underscored the unwavering determination of the students, who persisted in their studies despite the upheaval and uncertainty.

The graduation ceremony, held at AIG Hospital, served as a poignant celebration of perseverance and achievement. Among the dignitaries in attendance was Sardor Rustambaev, Uzbekistan's Ambassador to India, who commended the students for their resilience and applauded the collaborative spirit that transcended borders. He expressed pride in Uzbekistan's role in supporting the student's journey to success and extended heartfelt congratulations to all involved.

The ceremony also witnessed the participation of esteemed figures such as Dr K. Laxman, MP Rajya Sabha, BJP OBC Morcha National President; Padmabhushan Dr Nageswara Reddy, Chairman, AIG Hospitals; P. Vijaya Babu, Chairman, AP Telugu Language Commission, and Former RTI Commissioner; Mr S Suyarov, First Secretary, Uzbekistan Embassy; Mr I Soliev, Counsellor, Uzbekistan Embassy; Dr BVK Raj, CEO, Neo Institute of Medical Sciences; and Mr Sandeep Sahoo, Vice President, AIG Hospitals.
