New Toll Rules: What They Mean for Your FASTag

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced a new toll collection rule that will benefit private vehicle owners across India.

What is it? Private vehicles can travel toll-free for up to 20 km on highways, expressways, bridges, and tunnels. Make sure your vehicle has a GNSS On-Board Unit.

How does it work? The GNSS unit tracks the distance your car travels. If you drive beyond 20 km, a fee will be charged for extra distance.

Who benefits? Millions of private vehicle owners, especially daily commuters who use the same highway sections.

GNSS vs. FASTag GNSS will not replace FASTag for now, but it has the potential to become the main toll-collection system as the technology evolves.
