The Supreme Court of India has granted content creator Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as ‘BeerBiceps,’ protection from arrest amid multiple FIRs filed against him. However, the court strongly condemned his controversial comments made on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show, India’s Got Latent.

SC Calls Remarks 'Perverted' and 'Unacceptable'

Ranveer Allahbadia sparked outrage over his comments about parents and sex, leading to multiple complaints. During the hearing, Justice Surya Kant sharply criticized Allahbadia’s statements, calling them “perverted” and “shameful.” The judge remarked, “There is something dirty in his mind which he has vomited on the YouTube show.” The court emphasized that his words would make daughters, sisters, and parents feel ashamed.

What Did Allahbadia’s Lawyer Say?

Despite the court’s harsh words, senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, representing Allahbadia, argued against his arrest. He acknowledged that the remarks were offensive but questioned whether they met the legal threshold for criminal charges. “As an officer of the court, I personally am disgusted by what the petitioner has said, but whether it rises to the level of a criminal offense is another question,” Chandrachud stated.

He also highlighted the death threats Allahbadia had received following the controversy. When Justice Surya Kant asked if he was defending such language, Chandrachud reiterated that profanity alone does not necessarily qualify as obscenity. Citing a past Supreme Court ruling, he explained that for something to be deemed obscene, it must provoke “lustful or sexual thoughts in a reasonable person.”

SC’s Conditions for Bail

While granting Allahbadia protection from arrest, the Supreme Court imposed strict conditions:

No further FIRs can be registered against him regarding this issue.

He must refrain from airing any future episodes of India’s Got Latent until further notice.

He must surrender his passport at the Thane police station and cannot leave the country without prior court approval.

He must fully cooperate with investigations in Maharashtra and Assam.

Additionally, the Supreme Court sought responses from the central government and the state governments of Maharashtra and Assam regarding Allahbadia’s request to combine and quash the multiple FIRs filed against him.

Further Legal Actions Underway

In connection with the case, Assam police have sent a team to Pune to summon comedian Samay Raina. The Maharashtra Cyber Department has also stepped in, filing a case under the IT Act and recommending the removal of all 18 episodes of the controversial show.

Allahbadia is facing legal trouble in multiple states, including complaints in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, further intensifying the controversy surrounding his remarks.

This case has sparked debates on the limits of free speech, the responsibility of content creators, and the legal consequences of offensive remarks in digital media.
