Shopian coldest as freezing temperatures continue across Kashmir
The cold wave gripping the Kashmir valley shows no signs of easing as temperatures continue to plummet. Shopian has recorded the lowest temperature in the region at a frigid minus 8.1 degrees Celsius, according to the local weather department.
Anantnag followed closely, registering a minimum temperature of minus 6.6°C, with Kulgam district recording minus 5.8°C.
Both Srinagar and Gulmarg experienced equally harsh conditions, with temperatures dropping to minus 4.6°C, while Sonamarg faced a chilling minus 7.0°C.
In contrast, Jammu city recorded a relatively milder 6.5°C, and Ramban emerged as the warmest spot in the area at 8.1°C. In the neighboring region of Ladakh, Kargil recorded a bone-chilling minus 8.8°C, and Leh experienced temperatures of minus 7.4°C.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Director of the Meteorological Department, warned that the weather is expected to worsen in the coming days. He indicated that temperatures are likely to drop further after December 23rd, marking the onset of the harshest phase of winter known as Chilai Kalan.
