Forest department officials dispatched teams to investigate reports of a leopard sighting near the Miyapur Metro Station on Friday night. A video clip, which has gone viral on social media, shows what appears to be a big cat taking a stroll. The video claims that the animal was spotted near the Metro station.

Prompted by the viral video, forest department officials, including members of the anti-poaching squad, were sent to verify the authenticity of the sighting.

A senior forest department official suggested that if the video was indeed shot in Hyderabad, it might have been taken in an area beyond the Metro depot, noting the presence of lush greenery and a tree line in the footage. “This scene doesn't match the busy surroundings of the Metro station,” the official remarked.

Considering the possibility of a leopard straying into the city, the official noted that it might have come from the scrub forest areas around Ameenpur and other nearby regions. “We cannot dismiss the possibility and have deployed personnel to investigate. Leopards are known for such behavior. Previously, we captured two leopards at the ICRISAT campus and there was an incident of a leopard wandering into the busy Jubilee Hills area,” the official added.
