A Reddit user has taken the internet by storm with a post claiming he purchased an Apple iPhone 16 for just Rs 27,000. The user backed up his claim by sharing a screenshot of the purchase receipt, revealing that he paid Rs 26,970 for the 256GB variant using his credit card. The remaining amount was covered by reward points accumulated on the card.

For those who may not be aware, Apple recently launched its iPhone 16 series, which includes four models: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The base model with 128GB storage is priced at Rs 79,900, while the 256GB variant costs Rs 89,900.

User's Claim

The Redditor mentioned using an HDFC Infinia credit card for the purchase. In the post, he said, “Thanks to the reward points. I now regret using this card for some of my big spends.”

When another user asked why he regretted using the card for the iPhone 16 purchase, he replied, “I used an Amazon Pay card for jewelry purchases just for 1% cashback, thinking Infinia wouldn’t give any points on jewelry, but it actually does.”

In response to a query about how he accumulated 62,930 points, the user said, “About 15 lakh.”

A third user commented, “I have 50k Regalia points but I can’t find the option to use points for iPhone 13,” while another added, “It makes me feel how little I know about credit cards and I was so dumb assuming that credit cards are scams.”

This intriguing story not only highlights the potential of credit card reward points but also has many reconsidering how they use their cards.
