Comedian-actor Kapil Sharma is in hot water following a recent episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show that sparked controversy online. During the episode, which featured filmmaker Atlee Kumar promoting his new production Baby John, Kapil’s light-hearted remarks about Atlee’s appearance led to accusations of a “racist jibe.” The segment quickly went viral, with many social media users criticizing Kapil for allegedly insulting Atlee’s looks.

In response to the backlash, Kapil Sharma took to X (formerly Twitter) to clear the air. He denied any intention of insulting Atlee and urged viewers to watch the episode themselves before forming judgments. He directly addressed a user who had shared a video claiming that Kapil had subtly mocked Atlee’s appearance. Kapil tweeted, “Dear sir, can you please explain where I talked about looks in this video? Please don’t spread hate on social media. Thank you. Guys, watch and decide for yourselves; don’t follow anyone’s tweet like a sheep."

The viral video shows Kapil and Atlee engaged in a friendly conversation. At one point, Kapil asked, “Atlee sir, you’re so young and yet so successful. When you met a star for the first time, did they not recognize you and ask, ‘Where is Atlee?’” Atlee responded by emphasizing the importance of not judging people based on appearance, citing how AR Murugadoss trusted his talent over his looks when he produced Atlee’s first film.

Despite the light-hearted nature of the conversation, some viewers felt that Kapil’s question was inappropriate, sparking a debate on social media.
