Instagram glitch! Users report issues with texting

Instagram is currently experiencing a major technical issue, affecting thousands of users who are unable to send or access direct messages. Reports of the problem began to surface around 5:14 PM on Tuesday, according to Downdetector, a service that tracks online outages.

Over 2,000 users have reported that their Instagram app isn't functioning properly. Downdetector's data is based on user submissions, so the actual number of affected users might be higher.

Amid the disruption, many users have taken to other social media platforms, such as X (formerly known as Twitter), to express their frustrations and confirm if others are facing similar issues. One user tweeted, "Ignored your DM? No, I didn't!! Instagram is down!!" while another asked, "Is it me or is everyone else also not able to send DM on Instagram?" Another user reported, "Messages aren’t delivering and show 'failed to deliver' after a few minutes. Anyone else experiencing this?"

As of now, neither Instagram nor its parent company, Meta, has issued an official statement regarding the outage. The cause of the technical difficulties remains unknown.

Users are advised to check the Instagram status page and Downdetector for updates on the situation. In the meantime, many are turning to alternative social media platforms to stay connected.

Background on Instagram Outages

This isn't the first time Instagram has faced such issues. On October 15, both Facebook and Instagram were impacted by a widespread outage that affected thousands of users in the US. At the peak of that incident, over 12,000 people reported issues with Facebook, while more than 5,000 reported problems with Instagram.

Earlier this year, another major outage affected hundreds of thousands of Facebook and Instagram users globally for more than two hours. During that outage, over 550,000 reports of disruptions for Facebook and about 92,000 for Instagram were recorded by Downdetector.
