New Delhi: South Asia's largest music and audio-streaming service, JioSaavn has said that popular Korean music artist BTS has been one of the most streamed K-pop band in India as of 2021. Mapping music trends of its Indian customers for 2021, the streaming app noted Justin Bieber and Jubin Nautiyal being the number one most streamed artist on its platform.

While international artistes like Alan Walker and DJ Snake and Indian artistes, Arijit Singh and Alka Yagnik maintained their ranks as most popular artists in the English and Hindi languages respectively, independent Indian artists like B Praak, Payal Dev and Stebin Ben have emerged as top artistes on the platform this year.

K-Pop as a genre saw a consistent growth in streams from April to August 2021 and has been constant ever since. Apart from music genre such as Pop, EDM and Hip Hop, two genres that saw an upward trend, according to JioSaavn, are devotional and Desi Hip-Hop. In terms of regional language, Telugu accounted for the highest streams in the category.

"As the economy opened up, users returned to pre-Covid listening behaviour with 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. contributing to most consumptions on the platform," JioSaavn has said.

The streaming platform has also said that throughout the year listeners continued to use podcasts as a preferred source of entertainment and information. Hindi podcasts saw an upward surge in 2021 and Bengali podcasts witnessed a spike particularly in the months of April and August. The company has also observed strong growth of the audio streaming industry and the increasing popularity of online streaming in the larger entertainment landscape.
