‘Haunted’ village experiences eerie sounds for days; Here’s what happens next

In a bizarre turn of events near the Thailand-Myanmar border, eerie sounds that villagers believed to be supernatural turned out to be the cries for help from a man trapped in a well. For three days, residents of the village were spooked by unexplained noises coming from a remote forest area, leading them to think the area was haunted.

The mystery was solved when authorities investigated and discovered a 22-year-old Chinese man named Liu Chuanyi trapped at the bottom of a 12-meter-deep well. According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), Liu had wandered into the forest and accidentally fallen into the well. Without food or water, he used his remaining strength to periodically scream for help, which the locals, unable to understand his language, mistook for ghostly sounds.

Universal Daily News in Thailand reported that the villagers, scared by the chilling cries, avoided the forest after dark. It wasn't until three days later that they alerted authorities, who then conducted a search and successfully rescued Liu in a 30-minute operation.

Liu sustained several injuries during his ordeal, including a cerebral concussion, a fractured left wrist, and multiple bruises. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors confirmed he was out of danger.

The incident left both villagers and authorities puzzled, with many wondering why Liu was in the area in the first place. His cries for help, louder at night, had created an atmosphere of fear in the community.

On social media, reactions ranged from humorous to admiring. One user humorously noted, “A Chinese man shouting for help in the middle of nowhere? Of course, the locals can’t understand the language and might think it was a wizard uttering spells.” Another praised Liu's endurance, saying, “Kudos to his strength and stamina.
