This year’s Akash Deep will conclude on the occasion of Kartik Purnima (November 27, 2023), where the immortal warriors of India will be honoured with 'Bhagirath Shaurya Samman'.
For centuries, there has been a tradition in Kashi of lighting sky lamps on the Ganga ghats in memory of our ancestors and to illuminate the path of their journey to heaven. There is a belief in the stories related to the sky lamp that in the month of Kartik, in the memory of the heroes who sacrificed their lives in the Mahabharata war, Bhishma had dedicated them to the lamp owners.
Along with this, in the celebration of 75 years of India's independence, freedom and independence, Ganga Seva Nidhi is paying tribute to the memories of India's past through this lamp. In 1999, the Kargil war inspired Ganga Seva Nidhi to pay tribute to the memory of all the brave warriors from the past till today by lighting a sky lamp and this sentiment started Kashi's centuries-old tradition of sky lamp.
It is believed that there is no season like the month of Kartik, there is no era like Satyayug, there is no scripture like the Vedas and there is no other pilgrimage like the Ganga. And this sky lamp burning in the month of Kartik on the banks of the Ganga is a symbol of this.
