In the Bareilly district of India, a suspected "psycho killer" has reportedly murdered nine women over the past five months. All the victims were middle-aged women found wearing sarees or chunaris. The most recent incident involved the strangulation of a 55-year-old woman. Indian media reports that two special teams and increased surveillance have been deployed to investigate these serial killings.
The police have organized meetings with residents in the affected villages and formed two distinct teams—one directly handling the cases and another gathering information from village chiefs and relevant parties. The police officers involved will be in plain clothes. The most recent victim, Urmila Devi Gangwar, went missing after leaving her house to gather feed for her animals. Her body was later discovered with signs of injuries, and the police have initiated legal proceedings after sending the body for a postmortem examination.
