A recent discovery by a Russian fisherman has sparked a wave of online reactions, with many comparing the creature to popular fictional characters such as “Megamind” and “X-men.”

Roman Fedortsov, a fisherman who works on a trawler, posted a short video on X (formerly Twitter) showing an unusual marine creature. In the video, Fedortsov humorously described the animal, calling it a "frog, a bun, and a stone with eyes." He also noted its strange behavior, saying, “Doesn’t swim well, has a sucker on the belly, makes grunting sounds, and is edible.”

The creature was identified as a smooth lumpfish, a species of marine ray-finned fish that can grow over a foot long. These fish are typically found in the northern Pacific Ocean at great depths.

Fedortsov, who is known for documenting strange sea creatures he encounters, has a large following of 600,000 people. His previous finds include a walrus skull, a toothed wolffish, and an anglerfish (monkfish).

Online reactions to the discovery included comparisons to extraterrestrial beings, with some users joking that the fish resembled an "alien" species invading Earth. One Instagram user commented, “That is 100% an alien,” while another wrote, “That’s the pet of aliens living underwater.”

Others were more dramatic, with one user saying, “Kill it and burn it! Don’t catch another one of those again!” Another user joked, “Yeah, aliens are real.”

Some commenters speculated that the fish’s unusual appearance was caused by radiation from the Chernobyl disaster, but the bloated body was actually a result of pressure changes as the creature was brought to the surface from the deep sea.

Fedortsov’s post has ignited a global conversation about the fascinating, mysterious creatures that dwell in the ocean’s depths.
