Heavy Rains Forecast for Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh Due to Bay of Bengal Low Pressure
Low Pressure in Bay of Bengal: Heavy Rains Expected in Several Regions
The Disaster Management Agency has reported that a low-pressure system will form over the South Bay of Bengal today. It is expected to move toward Tamil Nadu and the southern coast within 48 hours, leading to heavy rainfall in many parts of the state.
Disaster Management Agency MD Ronanki Kurmanath stated that a circulation has developed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjacent Indian Ocean. As a result, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the central parts of the South Bay of Bengal. Fishermen have been advised not to venture out to sea for the next 48 hours as the system is expected to move west-northwestwards toward northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the southern coast.
Heavy Rain Forecast: Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool, and Nandyala districts today. Kurmanath also mentioned that similar weather conditions are likely in some parts of Nellore, YSR, Annamaiya, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts. Light to moderate rainfall is forecast for parts of Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, West Godavari, Krishna, and Palnadu districts. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in isolated areas on Wednesday and Thursday.
Stay Alert: People are advised to avoid streams, canals, roads, culverts, and manholes that may overflow due to heavy rains. If outdoors, avoid standing under fallen electric poles, wires, trees, and hoardings, and seek shelter in safe buildings, especially avoiding old or damaged structures. Farmers, laborers, and cattle herders working in the fields should refrain from seeking shelter under trees, poles, towers, or open areas, as thunderstorms may accompany the rains.
Heavy rainfall is also expected in Prakasam, Sri Sathya Sai, and Bapatla districts tomorrow. Residents of Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, P.G., Krishna, and Palnadu districts are advised to avoid drains, culverts, and manholes due to the possibility of moderate to heavy rains. Fishermen should avoid fishing activities, and farmers, laborers, and cattle herders should exercise caution.
