The world's first commercial space station that looks like a luxury hotel
Gone are the days of traditional, utilitarian space stations. A U.S. startup, Vast, is revolutionizing space travel with Haven-1, the world's first commercial space station designed with luxury in mind. Scheduled to launch aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket in August 2025 or later, Haven-1 is set to welcome its first guests as soon as 2026.
A New Era of Space Travel
Vast's Haven-1 redefines space travel with its sleek and sophisticated design, resembling a high-end resort rather than an orbital laboratory. The station's interior features wood veneer accents, soft padded white walls, and amenities typically found in luxury hotels. These include a state-of-the-art gym for zero-gravity workouts and private rooms with advanced entertainment and communication technology, ensuring guests stay connected with loved ones on Earth.

Luxury Meets Functionality
Haven-1 can comfortably accommodate four astronauts, providing each with a cozy room equipped with storage, a vanity, and a specially designed queen-sized bed for optimal sleep. The station also boasts:
1.1m Observation Window Dome: Offers breathtaking views of Earth.
Patent-Pending Sleep System: Ensures restful sleep in zero gravity.
Onboard Fitness System: Helps maintain cardiovascular and bone health.
Warm, Welcoming Interiors: Featuring natural materials like maple wood veneer.
A Human-Centric Design Approach
Vast's Chief Design and Marketing Officer, Hillary Coe, highlights the importance of human-first design. "We have big ambitions to create a future where everyone is living and thriving on Earth and in space. This requires a shift in how we approach design for all backgrounds and comfort levels," she says.
Expertise from Space Veterans
The design of Haven-1 has been significantly influenced by veteran NASA astronaut Andrew Feustel, who has spent over 225 days in space. "I've flown three missions to space, and we are learning from those experiences and innovating to improve the way we can live and work on a space station. From communication and connectivity to private space and interacting with others aboard, to advancing human progress on Earth and beyond, every detail has been designed with the astronaut experience at the core of our work,” Feustel explains.
