Samsung has been inching toward the extended reality (XR) space for years, with its much-anticipated mixed reality headset, codenamed Project Moohan, set to launch sometime this year. But that’s not all—the South Korean tech giant may also have a pair of XR glasses in the works.

According to a report from ETNews, Samsung is developing smart glasses under the codename Haen (which means “coast” or “seashore” in Korean) and is aiming for a release by the end of 2025. The company is reportedly finalizing the device’s specs and features.

“With Apple’s Vision Pro already on the market, Samsung’s focus will be on delivering a more advanced user experience,” an industry insider told ETNews.

What Exactly Are ‘Haen’ XR Glasses?

The report refers to Haen as “smart glasses,” but that term can be a bit ambiguous. In tech circles, smart glasses can refer to simpler heads-up displays—like the now-discontinued Google Glass—or full-fledged AR glasses that overlay digital content onto the real world, like Meta’s Orion.

Since the report doesn’t specify whether Haen will lean toward augmented reality (AR) or just a basic smart display, we’re calling them XR glasses for now.

Samsung’s XR Journey So Far

Samsung has been teasing its entrance into the XR glasses market for years. In 2021, Microsoft leaker WalkingCat shared concept videos of futuristic AR devices from the company. Over the years, Samsung has also filed several patents related to XR technology, including a recent one for "Galaxy Glasses" with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Last year, South Korea’s Yonhap News suggested Samsung would unveil XR glasses at its January Unpacked event, but that didn’t happen. However, Samsung did showcase a roadmap slide featuring XR glasses, hinting at future plans.

The rumored features for Haen include payment functionality, gesture recognition, and facial recognition, with a possible Q3 2025 launch. But details on its display capabilities or whether it will function as true AR glasses remain unknown.

Samsung’s XR Strategy with Google

Samsung is already collaborating with Google on Project Moohan, its mixed reality headset powered by Android XR. With Haen, the company may be looking to further expand its footprint in the XR market, taking full advantage of Google’s software ecosystem.

At Unpacked 2025 in January, Samsung gave a sneak peek at a “near-final” version of Project Moohan. However, its official name and release date remain under wraps.

While details on Haen are still scarce, one thing is clear—Samsung is preparing for a major push into XR technology. Whether it’s a direct competitor to Apple’s Vision Pro or something entirely different, we’ll likely hear more soon.
