Key Points:

The Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to retain the S Pen slot.

Samsung may remove the S Pen slot starting with the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

Extra space could be used to increase battery capacity or reduce camera count.

Samsung might be getting ready to say goodbye to one of its most iconic features in the Galaxy S Ultra lineup — the dedicated S Pen slot.

According to a tipster known as Flash Panda Pro on X (formerly Twitter), the tech giant is considering removing the S Pen slot from upcoming Galaxy S Ultra models. While the Galaxy S26 Ultra — expected next year — may still have the slot, this feature could vanish by the time the Galaxy S27 Ultra arrives in 2027.

Why the change?

By removing the slot, Samsung could reclaim valuable internal space. This extra room might be used to boost battery size — something users have been hoping for, especially since the battery has been stuck at around 5,000mAh for several generations.

Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 Ultra without Air Actions support or the remote shutter feature for the S Pen. That move hinted the company might be slowly moving away from its stylus-first approach in the S series.

No S Pen? Not exactly.

Even if the slot disappears, Samsung may still support the S Pen. One possible workaround is using built-in magnets to hold the stylus externally — similar to the setup seen on some tablets. Another option? Making the S Pen available as an add-on, much like it did with the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

More changes ahead?

Samsung is also exploring ways to free up internal space by redesigning its rear camera setup. Reports suggest the Galaxy S26 Ultra might use a single 200MP sensor with variable aperture technology — potentially replacing the need for multiple rear cameras.

All signs point to a design shake-up that focuses on maximizing battery life and optimizing internal hardware, even if it means parting ways with fan-favorite features like the S Pen slot.
