OpenAI's 'Deep Research' Can Be Your Agentic AI Research Analyst
OpenAI, the well-known artificial intelligence (AI) startup supported by Microsoft, has introduced an AI agent called "Deep Research" within ChatGPT.
The organization stated that this newly integrated tool is driven by a version of the forthcoming O3 series reasoning model, allowing users to perform multi-step research on the internet for intricate tasks. Furthermore, OpenAI has released the "o3-mini," a smaller reasoning model that is also accessible to free-tier users of ChatGPT.
The company elaborated, "Deep research is OpenAI's next agent that can do work for you independently—you give it a prompt, and ChatGPT will find, analyze, and synthesize hundreds of online sources to create a comprehensive report at the level of a research analyst.”
During a live demonstration, OpenAI researchers showcased the tool's ability to analyze web search data to recommend skiing gear appropriate for a snow holiday in Japan.
In addition, Sam Altman from OpenAI is set to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo on Monday, alongside SoftBank Group's CEO Masayoshi Son.
Both OpenAI and SoftBank are involved in the Stargate initiative, which was announced by US President Donald Trump and aims to invest as much as $500 billion in AI infrastructure throughout the United States.
Son's presence at Trump's inauguration preceded the announcement that SoftBank would spearhead the US AI infrastructure development project, collaborating with cloud computing leader Oracle.
Furthermore, Ishiba is scheduled to travel to Washington for his first face-to-face meeting with Trump later this week.
