While describing the future of the AI world, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said that AI agents can eventually carry out tasks performed by software engineers. As per a post, Altman reiterated how AI systems are being designed to carry out complex engineering tasks.
He gave an example of a software engineering AI agent that can handle tasks assigned to an early-career software engineer. However, he clarified that these models are not capable of producing breakthrough ideas.
“In the long term, we could have thousands or even millions of AI agents deployed across different industries, redefining knowledge-based work,” Altman said.
Altman’s comments came as the field of artificial intelligence moves closer to reality.
Notably, AI-driven workforce isn’t just limited to OpenAI, other tech giants including Meta and Google have also highlighted a shift wherein AI is expected to replace mid-level software engineering roles.
