Nvidia is set to launch a quantum computing research lab in Boston, aiming to collaborate with scientists from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as announced by CEO Jensen Huang on Thursday.

This news was unveiled during Nvidia's annual software developer conference in San Jose, California, which featured a full-day event dedicated to quantum computing.

The lab initiative comes on the heels of Huang's earlier remark in January, where he stated that quantum computers are still two decades away. On Thursday, however, he sought to clarify those comments while sharing the stage with leaders from various quantum computing companies.

The Nvidia Accelerated Quantum Research Center, also known as NVAQC, will begin collaborating with quantum firms such as Quantinuum, Quantum Machines, and QuEra Computing. Nvidia announced that the center is expected to start operations later this year.

During the event, Huang engaged in discussions about the industry's future with executives from over a dozen companies, many of whom are striving to monetize quantum technology even before it surpasses existing computing systems.

"This is the first event in history where a company CEO invites all of the guests to explain why he was wrong," Huang said.
