Hyderabad Facebook owned WhatsApp has been constantly updating the application. The latest in the enhancements is for the WhatsApp Web application that you use on another device not running your mobile SIM, such as a desktop or laptop. All these days you have been using the WhatsApp web by placing the primary mobile device online and in the proximity of the other device. But not any longer! Thanks to the update from WhatsApp.

You can now use WhatsApp Web on browsers independent of the main phone app. This means that you log on to the WhatsApp Web by scanning the QR code for the first time. After that every time you switch on the other device(s) and open WhatsApp Web, you are logged on automatically. The condition is you should not Log Out. According to WhatsApp, with the beta feature you can remain logged on for a fortnight and keep receiving and sending messages even though your primary mobile device is not online or does not have connectivity.

Here are five salient aspects of the beta feature.

1. No connectivity on main device required

You can use the WhatsApp Web Multi-Device feature on four other devices without being connected to your primary phone. This means you can use WhatsApp Web now even if your phone loses connectivity, shuts down, or simply cannot connect to WhatsApp.

2. Connect up to four devices

Using the new feature you can connect up to four more devices or four more browsers on the same device. That is, if you open multiple browsers on the same device, they will count as multiple entries. This means that if you connect WhatsApp Web via four different browsers on one laptop, you will have already crossed the limit and will not be able to add another device or browser.

3. Android and iOS difference

While the new feature update comes to both Android and iOS, WhatsApp users, the functionality is a bit different. For instance, linking with an Android device lets you delete messages and threads from the Web portal, but on an iOS device you will not be able to do the same.

4. No calls supported

The new feature does not yet support WhatsApp calls, both voice and video calls, and you will have to use the main device to make or receive calls.

5. Tablets and other phones not supported

WhatsApp Web's multi-device feature is still in beta and may still have a few bugs or inconsistencies. This includes support for tablets and other phones via browsers, where the experience continues to be not so smooth. For now, you can experience the WhatsApp Web's multi-device feature best on laptops and desktops.
