Microsoft has unveiled six new Agentic AI security agents designed to enhance cybersecurity by autonomously addressing phishing threats, data security, and identity management.

With cyber threats escalating, Microsoft now processes 84 trillion security signals daily, including 7,000 password attacks per second. The company emphasized that AI-driven defense mechanisms are crucial to counteract the increasing volume and sophistication of cyberattacks.

In an official statement, Microsoft announced, "We are expanding Security Copilot with six security agents developed in-house and five created by our partners. These will be available for preview in April 2025. Given the exponential rise in cyber threats, deploying AI agents is no longer an option but a necessity."

Microsoft launched Security Copilot last year to enhance cybersecurity operations by assisting in threat detection, investigation, and response. Between January and December 2024, over 30 billion phishing emails targeted Microsoft customers, highlighting the need for automation in cybersecurity to manage overwhelming volumes of malicious activity effectively.

The newly introduced AI agents are designed to automate routine security tasks, enabling human security teams to focus on complex cyber threats and strategic defense initiatives. These agents integrate with Microsoft Security solutions, leveraging machine learning and user feedback to improve efficiency, streamline workflows, and reinforce security postures in alignment with Microsoft’s Zero Trust framework.

As enterprises accelerate their adoption of generative AI, concerns over securing AI-driven operations have intensified. According to Microsoft’s latest research, 57 percent of organizations report a surge in security incidents linked to AI usage. However, 60 per cent of these firms have yet to implement AI-specific security controls, underscoring the urgency to establish governance measures.
