Windows 11 users might soon see the return of the ‘Windows key + C’ shortcut, previously used to summon Copilot, after being removed last year. Microsoft appears to be reconsidering the decision, with early clues suggesting that the keyboard shortcut could be reintroduced in a future update.
This shortcut, originally transferred from Cortana to Copilot, allowed users to quickly access the AI assistant, especially on devices lacking a dedicated Copilot key. According to leak sources, Microsoft is experimenting with bringing back this feature, potentially through an upcoming preview build.
The functionality will reportedly allow users to customize the shortcut, offering the option to assign a different action if Copilot is not in use. This flexibility ensures that users can personalize their keyboard shortcuts according to their needs.
This development comes after Microsoft’s decision to decouple the shortcut from Copilot in mid-2024. While there were theories that this was meant to promote dedicated Copilot keys on certain laptops, users may now see a more convenient and customizable approach.
Although nothing is confirmed yet, it seems Microsoft is reversing its earlier decision. If the shortcut returns, users will once again have a quicker way to summon Copilot, or choose to repurpose the shortcut entirely.
