Meta Technical Error: Instagram Flooded With Disturbing And Inappropriate Content

Facebook's parent company, Meta, has publicly apologized for an unexpected surge of disturbing content that has appeared in users' Instagram Reel feeds around the globe. The company attributed this unsettling situation to a technical glitch that exposed users to a flood of short videos showcasing violence, including killings and cartel-related activities, even though these videos were marked as "sensitive content."

Commenting on the incident, a Meta spokesperson stated, "We have fixed an error that caused some users to see content in their Instagram Reels feed that should not have been recommended."

The issue gained attention when Instagram users from all over began reporting the alarming rise in violent and inappropriate content in their feeds, raising serious concerns about possible flaws in the platform's algorithm and its content moderation system.

Numerous users took X to highlight the event, noting graphic videos depicting violence, gore, and other disturbing content, even with Sensitive Content Control settings enabled.

One user questioned, “Is anyone else noticing this on Instagram? My Reels feed suddenly started showing violent videos for no reason. Is this a glitch or some change in the algorithm?”

Others echoed similar concerns, with comments like “What's going on with Instagram? Every few scrolls, I see violent and sensitive content!” and “Has anyone of you noticed that Instagram is showing you weird reels or content today?”
