iPhone 17 Air: Larger and thinner displays across the board

Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone 17 series, set to debut in September 2025, is already sparking excitement with rumors of major design and hardware improvements. The latest reports suggest that the new models will feature a thinner design, enhanced display technology, and advanced camera upgrades.
A New Addition: The iPhone 17 Air
One of the most significant changes is the introduction of the iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to replace the iPhone 17 Plus. This new model aims to offer a more portable and lightweight option, inspired by Apple’s MacBook Air and iPad Air. The iPhone 17 Air will stand out with a thinner profile and a focus on portability, offering a compelling alternative to the standard iPhone 17.
Larger and Thinner Displays Across the Board
The iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.6-inch display, slightly bigger than the previous Plus model. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 17 will increase to 6.3 inches, up from the current 6.1-inch size. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will maintain their 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively.
Apple is also expected to make the iPhone 17 Air the thinnest iPhone ever, with a body measuring around 6mm. This thinner design is possible thanks to a new battery technology that ensures long-lasting power despite the reduced size.
ProMotion for All iPhone 17 Models
For the first time, ProMotion will be available across all iPhone 17 models, including the base models. Currently exclusive to Pro models, 120Hz LTPO OLED displays will bring smoother scrolling and improved battery efficiency to the entire iPhone lineup.
New Camera Design for Better Photography
The iPhone 17 series is also expected to feature a redesigned camera layout. The iPhone 17 Air and Pro models might adopt a horizontal camera setup inspired by the iPhone X, potentially enhancing video recording capabilities with Apple’s spatial video technology. However, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will likely retain its vertical triple-camera system.
Upgraded Front Camera and Connectivity Features
The iPhone 17 series could introduce a significant upgrade to the front-facing camera, with a new 24MP sensor and a six-element lens, delivering better selfies, FaceTime calls, and Face ID performance, especially in low light. Additionally, Apple is working on custom Wi-Fi 7 and modem chips, potentially making the iPhone 17 Air the first to feature Apple’s in-house modem, improving connectivity and efficiency.
New Display Technology and Durability
Apple may also replace the current Ceramic Shield with a new anti-reflective, scratch-resistant glass, which would reduce glare and improve screen durability in bright environments.
Price Increase Expected
Along with these exciting upgrades, a price hike is anticipated for the iPhone 17 series, including the new iPhone 17 Air, signaling that the cutting-edge features may come at a premium cost.
The iPhone 17 series promises to set a new standard for smartphones, with upgrades that cater to both design-conscious and performance-driven users. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the official launch in September 2025.
