iPhone 16e Review: Impressive performance at a budget, but with trade-offs

The iPhone 16e steps in as Apple’s new entry-level smartphone, replacing both the iPhone SE (2022) and the iPhone 14. Priced at $600, it strikes a balance between affordability and high-end performance, though not without some compromises.
At its core, the iPhone 16e delivers the power of Apple’s latest A18 processor, ensuring smooth performance and support for Apple Intelligence. Battery life is also a standout feature, making it a reliable daily driver. However, Apple has cut back on several features found in its flagship models—there’s no ultrawide camera, MagSafe, Dynamic Island, Camera Control button, or Ultra Wideband chip for precise device tracking. It also lacks support for the fastest 5G networks.
Despite these omissions, the iPhone 16e still holds its ground. Its single-lens camera system includes a 2x telephoto option, delivering optical-quality zoom, and should meet the needs of most casual photographers. While it may not offer the same feature set as its predecessor, the iPhone 16e remains a compelling choice for those seeking Apple’s ecosystem at a lower cost.
