Apple has introduced Starlink satellite connectivity to iPhones through the iOS 18.3 update, expanding its satellite communication capabilities. This integration, developed in collaboration with SpaceX and T-Mobile, enables select iPhone users to participate in a beta program offering satellite-based text messaging. Initially, the service is limited to text messaging, with plans to include voice and data features in the future.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved SpaceX's use of Starlink satellites to provide direct-to-phone service for T-Mobile customers, marking the first collaboration of its kind between a satellite operator and a wireless carrier.

This development follows the FCC's recent approval of a license for T-Mobile and SpaceX's Starlink to offer supplemental telecommunications coverage from space, aiming to eliminate internet dead zones in remote areas.

The iOS 18.3 update is currently available to a select group of iPhone users in the United States. The beta program is open and free for all T-Mobile postpaid voice customers with a compatible device. Initially, T-Mobile Starlink will support texting, with voice and data services planned for future implementation.
