On Thursday, D. Sridhar Babu, the state's minister of information technology and industries, announced that Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, will host a global AI summit in July.
He explained that this move is in keeping with the State government's goals of establishing Hyderabad and Telangana as the global AI capital. This comes as the Union government's Department of Science and Technology (DST) has established a centre of excellence for AI and Machine Learning at the startup incubator T-Hub in Hyderabad.

An AI City has already been announced by the government as it believes that Hyderabad has the talent pool to not only compete but lead the way in artificial intelligence.

Leaders in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are expected to attend the summit. Mr. Sridhar Babu, who pointed out that the state is already driving some groundbreaking AI projects—such as those for farm produce, pensioner verification, and pothole detection—said that it will host discussions on a wide range of subjects.
"Our strength lies in robotics and computer vision, accounting for a whopping 61% of patent filings in the State," he said, emphasizing the need to enhance engagement amid AI touching various spheres.
The Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Technology Hub (MATH), the CoE, is unique in its mission to promote innovation, generate employment opportunities, and support the growth of new businesses, according to a joint statement by the DST and T-Hub. In an effort to establish itself as the national leader in AI-driven initiatives, it plans to create 500 new jobs in the field by 2025 and support 150 new businesses each year.
