Infosys, a large IT company, is laying off 400 trainees who didn’t pass their evaluation tests after three tries. These trainees were hired in October 2024, and about half of them are now being let go.

According to Infosys, new employees go through intense training at their Mysuru campus, followed by tests. "If they fail the test three times, they can’t stay with the company," Infosys explained. This rule has been in place for over 20 years to ensure high-quality employees.

One trainee said the tests were extremely difficult and felt like they were designed to make people fail. "The tests were very tough, and many trainees felt helpless. Some even fainted. It’s been really tough for us," said the trainee.

Infosys has reportedly called small groups of trainees to sign "mutual separation" letters, which means they are being asked to leave voluntarily.

The Economic Times reported that around 700 trainees from the October batch have been let go. NITES, a group for IT workers, said this was unfair. “It’s wrong to lay off recruits so soon after hiring them,” said Harpreet Singh Saluja, the president of NITES.

Infosys responded, saying fewer than 350 trainees were fired. After the news, the company’s stock price dropped by 0.69%.
