Google has accidentally revealed information confirming the development of the Pixel 8a, making this the first unintentional hint about the device. According to 9to5Google, the revelation unfolded as a Google software engineer interacted with users, addressing bugs with a specific emphasis on battery stats, given that this particular battery feature mysteriously vanished during the March 2024 feature update for Pixel phones. In the course of interaction, the engineer stated, "We only enabled this page on Pixel 8a and beyond, so this is WAI (working as Intended)," subtly indicating that the removal was intentional because the feature wasn't meant for the current devices.
During its availability on other Pixels, users have noted that the statistics provided by this feature were frequently inaccurate, suggesting the possibility that Google may be contemplating further development of this feature in the future.
While details about the Pixel 8a remain under wraps, leaks hint at a continuation of Google's commitment to exceptional camera capabilities, building on the Pixel series' mobile photography legacy. The Pixel 8a is expected to retain the design language of the flagship Pixel 8, powered by Google's Tensor G3 processor, and maintain a 90Hz refresh rate display.
Rumours also suggest upgraded hardware for a smoother user experience, including a more powerful processor, increased RAM, and improved battery efficiency, catering to tech-savvy consumers. However, details are speculative until Google officially unveils the Pixel 8a, expected during the I/O 2024 keynote in May.
