Hyderabad: US-based technology giant Google is set to establish a Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) in the city. The announcement follows a ‘strategically crucial and broad ranging partnership’ agreement entered between the Telangana government and Google LLC, here on Wednesday.

The GSEC in Hyderabad would be the first in India, second in the Asia-Pacific region after Tokyo, and the fifth in the world, after Dublin, Munich and Malaga. This GSEC will be a specialised international cybersecurity hub for developing advanced security and online safety products.

“We closed a major cutting-edge technology investment partnership with Google for Hyderabad. With this successful partnership, we have made history and set the foundation for transforming Hyderabad into a global hub for Safety Engineering and Cyber Security,” Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy posted a message on X, after signing the agreement.

The Centre will focus on research, AI-driven security solutions, foster skill development, boost employment and enhance security capabilities in India.

Royal Hansen, Vice-President, Security Engineering, Google, said that “the company is excited to establish the GSEC in Hyderabad, which has the potential to become a global centre for this area.”

IT minister D Sridhar Babu, Arijit Sarkar, Vice-President, Global Google Tech, Hyderabad, Sreenivasa Reddy, Managing Director, Govt Affairs and Public Policy, Google India, Mangla Seshadri, Head - Global cybersecurity, and Apurva Chamaria, Head of Startups for Google, were also present.
