Google Gemini AI Brings Podcasts and Writing Tools to Docs
Google Docs now features Gemini AI tools to create podcast-style audio and help users refine writing with real-time feedback.

Google on Friday unveiled new functionalities in its Workspace suite, integrating its Gemini AI more deeply into Google Docs. The rollout introduces tools aimed at transforming how users create and refine content, including a unique option to generate podcast-style audio versions of documents.
The first feature, expected to launch soon, introduces audio generation within Google Docs. Users will have the ability to convert their written documents into full-length audio files. This includes a podcast-style format summarizing key highlights, modeled after Google's NotebookLM audio overview. NotebookLM uses two AI narrators to synthesize document content into conversational summaries that users can stream or download.
Additionally, the new "Help me refine" tool will be embedded in Docs to assist users with writing improvements. Acting as an AI writing assistant, it offers real-time feedback on content structure and argument clarity. Rather than rewriting text, the tool aims to guide users in strengthening their ideas and enhancing communication effectiveness.
According to Google, both features highlight support over automation, allowing users to remain in control of their content while leveraging AI enhancements. "Help me refine" is scheduled for release within the current quarter.
