Lava has unveiled the Shark series, a new lineup of budget-friendly smartphones aimed at first-time users. The Indian smartphone brand has confirmed that devices in this series will be priced under Rs 9,000, prioritizing design, performance, and durability.
The first device in this lineup, named Lava Shark, bears a strong resemblance to Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro, particularly in its rear design. The device features Lava branding, but when placed in a case, distinguishing it from Apple’s flagship could prove challenging. It is available in two color variants, Gold and Black, with the Gold version labeled “Titanium Gold.”
The Lava Shark features a 6.67-inch display with a 720p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. While the panel type is unspecified, it is likely an LCD. A hole-punch front camera is integrated into the design.
Under the hood, the smartphone runs on the UNISOC T606 chipset, an octa-core processor. A 5000mAh battery powers the device, supporting 18W charging, though only a 10W charger is included in the box. Lava claims the device can provide 45 hours of talk time, 376 hours of standby, and 550 minutes of YouTube playback.
The device includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, expandable by up to 256GB. It operates on Android 14, with Lava promising an optimized software experience.
The Lava Shark is equipped with a 50-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter. Connectivity options include Dual 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac. A side-mounted fingerprint scanner handles biometric authentication, with an option for face unlock.
The device has an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance.
Lava has confirmed that the Shark series will expand with additional models in the coming months. The Lava Shark 1, priced at Rs 6,999 for the 4GB/64GB variant, will be available at retail stores nationwide starting this month.
