iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus Set to Launch in India on September 9

After months of speculation, Apple has officially announced that its flagship iPhone 16 series will be launched on September 9, a day earlier than previously rumoured. In addition to the new iPhones, the tech giant is expected to unveil new smartwatches and AirPods. However, as is customary, Apple has not confirmed any details about these upcoming devices and may not acknowledge their presence until the launch event.

As Apple’s major event approaches, here’s an in-depth look at what we’ve learned about the upcoming iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus from rumours and leaks to date:

DESIGN

Rumours suggest that Apple is planning to update the design of the iPhone 16, potentially shifting to a vertical camera layout reminiscent of the iPhone X or iPhone 12, moving away from the diagonal design of its predecessor. This new arrangement is expected to enhance the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus's ability to capture spatial video.

Apple is rumoured to be replacing the mute button on the standard iPhone 16 models with the Action Button, a feature introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro last year. Additionally, the company might include a new 'Capture' button, allowing users to start video recording, adjust zoom, or focus on subjects.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the standard iPhone 16 will be available in five colours: black, green, pink, blue, and white. If accurate, this would indicate that Apple is discontinuing the blue and yellow colour options previously available for the standard iPhone.

PROCESSOR

Multiple reports indicate that Apple will equip all iPhone 16 models with the A18 chipset, enabling on-device AI capabilities. However, the processors in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus may differ from those in the Pro variants, particularly in GPU performance.

Additionally, the iPhone 16 series is expected to feature an increase in RAM, with 8GB compared to the 6GB found in the previous generation.

CAMERA

According to a report by Apple Insider, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to feature the same camera setup as their predecessors. This includes a 48MP primary camera with an f/1.6 aperture and 2x optical telephoto zoom, along with an ultra-wide-angle lens capable of 0.5x zoom. The ultra-wide lens may receive a minor upgrade, with a new aperture of f/2.2 compared to the f/2.4 on the iPhone 15. This change could potentially enhance low-light photography by allowing more light to reach the sensor. Macro photography support is also anticipated.

DISPLAY AND PRICING

Apple is anticipated to maintain the same 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch OLED displays with a 60Hz refresh rate for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. The standard models are also expected to retain last year's pricing, around $800.
