Apple released the iOS 18.1 update for compatible iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks on Tuesday, marking the first phase of the rollout of its highly anticipated Apple Intelligence features announced at WWDC 2024. With iOS 18.1, Apple introduces a host of AI-powered tools, including a more conversational Siri, system-wide writing enhancements, call recording transcription and summaries, smart replies in Mail and Messages, AI-driven Focus Modes, and more.

iOS 18.1: Eligible Devices in India

iPhones from the iPhone SE (2nd generation) onward qualify for the iOS 18.1 update, though only select models can access the new Apple Intelligence features. In addition to the latest iPhone 16 series, last year’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are also equipped to support these AI capabilities.

How to Download iOS 18.1 in India

To install the iOS 18.1 update, open your iPhone and check the control panel for any update notifications. If none appear, go to Settings > General > Software Update, and select “Download and Install iOS 18.1.”

Activating Apple Intelligence Features in India

Currently, Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.1 are only available in English (United States). To activate these features, Indian users must change Siri’s language setting from English (India) to English (United States).

Apple Intelligence Language Support Expansion

Apple plans to expand Apple Intelligence language options, with localised English support for Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK beginning in December. An OTA update in April will further broaden support to languages including English (India), English (Singapore), Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and more.
