Apple introduced the iPhone 16e on Wednesday, marking the end of the SE series and expanding the iPhone 16 lineup. The latest model serves as a mid-range option alongside the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max.
The iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with a notch, a departure from the previous iPhone SE (3rd Gen). The device includes a flat aluminum frame, with up to 85 per cent of the material being recycled. The Ceramic Shield provides screen durability, and the device is IP68-rated for water and dust resistance, allowing submersion in up to six meters of water for 30 minutes.
Face ID replaces the Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the iPhone 16e, making the iPhone SE (3rd Gen) the last model to support Touch ID. The new facial recognition system enables secure unlocking, transactions, and app protection.
Apple's A18 chipset powers the iPhone 16e, integrating a 6-core CPU, 4-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. The chipset significantly improves machine learning tasks, running models up to six times faster than the A13 Bionic. Additionally, hardware-accelerated ray tracing enhances graphics for gaming and AR applications.
The device includes Apple Intelligence, enabling advanced functionalities such as smart writing tools, automatic language translation, and image enhancements through the Clean Up tool. The Visual Intelligence feature enhances object recognition and scene detection.
For the first time, Apple has incorporated its proprietary C1 modem, designed to optimize power efficiency and deliver improved 5G connectivity. By reducing dependence on Qualcomm’s modems, Apple aims to streamline costs and integrate hardware more effectively with iOS.
The iPhone 16e features a 48MP Fusion camera, offering high-resolution image capture and 2x Telephoto zoom. The front-facing 12MP TrueDepth camera supports FaceTime calls and selfies with improved clarity. Users can record 4K videos with advanced stabilization features.
Apple has integrated Crash Detection, which automatically alerts emergency services if the device senses a severe collision. Satellite-based emergency messaging is available in select regions, allowing users to contact assistance when cellular and Wi-Fi networks are unavailable.
Compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 16e extends battery life by approximately 12 hours, offering up to 27 hours of video playback. It supports 7.5W wireless charging with Qi2 standard chargers, ensuring efficient power replenishment.
Apple has confirmed that the iPhone 16e is assembled in India for local distribution and international export. Pre-orders begin on February 21, with the official market launch on February 28.
The iPhone 16e is available in black and white, with storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, priced at Rs 59,900, Rs 69,900, and Rs 89,900, respectively.
