Apple is preparing to release updated 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models in early 2025, equipped with the company’s advanced M4 chip. According to industry sources, these new laptops promise significant performance improvements and enhanced features.

The M4 chip, which has already debuted in Apple’s MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini, features a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. Benchmark results indicate a 25 per cent increase in multi-core CPU performance compared to the M3 chip, providing faster processing and improved graphics capabilities. This update is expected to deliver substantial benefits for users who rely on high-performance computing for tasks such as video editing, coding, and multitasking.

The new MacBook Air models are designed with improved power efficiency, extending the battery life—a hallmark feature of the MacBook Air series. This enhancement will appeal to users seeking reliable performance throughout the day without frequent recharging.

Apple is doubling the base RAM in the 2025 MacBook Air models to 16GB, up from the previous 8GB minimum. This change is aimed at improving multitasking and overall system responsiveness, making the laptops more capable of handling demanding applications.

The front camera will also see a significant upgrade, featuring a 12MP sensor with Apple’s Center Stage technology. This innovation leverages machine learning to keep users centered during video calls, even as they move. Additionally, the camera is expected to support Desk View, offering an overhead perspective of the workspace, enhancing the functionality for virtual meetings and creative projects.

Connectivity will be enhanced with the inclusion of three Thunderbolt 4 ports, up from the two Thunderbolt 3 ports in current models. This update will allow users to connect more external devices and support dual external displays, even with the MacBook Air closed.

While rumors suggest that Apple might extend its nano-texture display option, currently available in some MacBook Pro models, to the MacBook Air, no confirmation has been made. This feature would reduce glare and improve visibility, particularly in bright environments.

In terms of design, no major changes are anticipated. The sleek and slim design introduced in 2022 will likely remain unchanged. The updated MacBook Air models are expected to be announced between January and March 2025 via Apple’s Newsroom. The announcement is likely to precede other spring product launches, such as a new iPhone SE, aligning with Apple’s strategy of introducing incremental updates before major releases.

With its upgraded M4 chip, increased RAM, improved camera, and enhanced connectivity, the 2025 MacBook Air models are set to attract a broad range of users.
